The Chief’s Diary: Superheroes don’t always wear capes, but they often wear smiles!
Meet Sander de Kramer- a Dutch national who wears a smile on his face like it’s sunday. Well, maybe that’s why his foundation is called the Sunday Foundation (https://www.sundayfoundation.nl/). Sander and I first met following an introduction of Bala from Tacugama while I was the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education. I was immediately inspired and we built a relationship based on impact and our shared vision for Salone. The rest the say is history but I want to share a bit about his work. (Wae yu yams white, na for show oda pipul den so den sef go learn how for grow white yams en know say white yams possible 😀).
Sander (https://sanderdekramer.nl/) has visited Sierra Leone over 80 times since 2008 (with dozens of friends and family) and he is one of the biggest ambassadors of education we have. Through his foundation, he has built 60 schools across the country. He’s supported football nationwide and expanded connections in the healthcare, sports and other sectors all at the benefit of people from Kambia, to Makeni, to Bo, to Freetown.
Over this past weekend, we worked together to build even deeper connections between Sierra Leone and Netherlands. We engaged students at TU Delft, made connections with private sector who are now inspired to invest in Sierra Leone, and had a truly incredible meeting with public officials including the Mayor of Rotterdam. One thing is clear, the Sierra Leone – Netherlands connection is richer today with more potential partnerships than ever before. These partnerships aren’t based on fear, but are inspired by opportunity. The link between Erasmus MC and Masanga Hospital is stronger. Sunday Foundation got commitments for more schools in Sierra Leone during our coffee meetings. TU Delft students established a relationship to mentor school students. A private sector company committed to buying agricultural produce in Sierra Leone. We solidified our commitment to put an astro turf in Pujehun. And most importantly, I am returning as a Feyenoord fan!!!!! In all of this, Sander wore a smile from kick off to the final whistle.
Together #WeAreDelivering.
