The Chief’s Diary: Deepening Sierra Leone – Turkey Trade, Investment and Diplomatic Relations
To conclude our participation at the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum, my delegation today met with the Vice President of Turkey 🇹🇷 Cevdet Yilmaz. We discussed high-level diplomatic and economic relations and specific initiatives that are geared at deepening Sierra Leone – Turkey relations.
President Julius Maada Bio and President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan have a great relationship upon which several of these initiatives are grounded and our job as technocrats is to accelerate the implementation. We discussed the growing Turkish investment in Sierra Leone, a desire to formalize education scholarships, and other structured peer-to-peer engagements. The Vice President mentioned the Investment and Trade Seminar
hosted by Ambassador Francess Virginia Anderson in Istanbul on May 30, 2025 as a good example in the right direction.
We committed to accelerating the construction of a modern Hospital in Bo – a project supported by TIKA and promoted by the First Ladies of Turkey and Sierra Leone. A Turkish company is constructing the International Conference Centre in Lungi to host the 79th ECOWAS Summit in July 2026. Turkish Airlines continues to fly about 4 times a week to Sierra Leone and Karpowership is our major energy partner. All these shape our partnership today. Our ambition is to make Sierra Leone a hub where Turkey (companies, industry, etc) meets Africa, in Africa.
As I return back to Freetown, I feel very fulfilled and humbled. The Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Ing Francis Alpha Kallon, and Ambassador Francess Virginia Anderson (and her embassy) have been extraordinary technical supporters to this mission in Antalya. Together #WeAreDelivering.
