The Chief’s Diary: 50th Golden Jubilee of St Paul’s Cathedral Launch in Kenema: Learning and Unlearning
50 years ago, the late Bishop Ganda set the vision for the St Paul’s Cathedral Church in Kenema. Till date, it is still one of the most exciting architectural designs in the country. This year, the parish will celebrate 50 years.
It’s at this mass where I was the Distinguished Grand Chief Launcher of the celebrations that Bishop Henry Aruna taught us two lessons.
Firstly, we must live and work in togetherness and belonging. No man is an island, we are told. We must find ways of belonging in our homes, churches, offices and communities and work together.
Secondly, St Thomas isn’t the unbelieving Thomas… he doubted yes, but once he saw, he believed. I had to unlearn this to actually learn the message from Bishop. Thomas was true to himself. And Thomas, a man of faith, believed and acted on his belief once he saw Jesus. He said, “my Lord and my God.” Like Thomas, may we be true to ourselves, have faith in God and be true believers once we see the fact.
In Church today, the choir sang a song for me. I was surprisingly pleased at the words. In Church, the words radical inclusion echoed. Together #WeAreDelivering
