The Chief’s Diary: Sierra Leone continues to make rapid progress on Human Capital Development Surpassing Senegal and Other Countries in Region

President Bio’s flagship agenda from 2018 to 2023 was Human Capital Development. Our National Development Plan itself was called “education for development” centered on our HCD events. 7 years after Bio’s ambitious plan, Sierra Leone is doing much better than other countries in the subregion including Senegal and Guinea.
Since 2023, Bio has doubled down by making food security his flagship program. Today, rice self sufficiency has improved by 31%, maternal mortality reduced by nearly 80% and child survival also a major positive. When we say together #WeAreDelivering, it’s not just words – it’s in lives impacted and these independent global data like the Human Capital Index published by the World Bank show us exactly how.
There’s one thing I am absolutely sure of – we are on the right track of transforming Sierra Leone and we will do it one indicator at a time, every single day.
When social media trolls ask what are we delivering, they don’t annoy me, it shows rather that we are on the right track.
