The Chief’s Diary: Connecting with Sierra Leoneans in rural Liberia
On my way back from Monrovia today where I’d joined the SLPP Chairman Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa at the inauguration of the SLPP Liberia Chapter executive, I made three stops to engage Sierra Leoneans and SLPP members off the beaten road!
In Gbar- Bomi County, Sinje- Grand Cape Mount County, and Bo Waterside, Grand Cape Mount County, we met with children, youth, women, elders and stakeholders. They shared with me their experiences with immigration and their challenges with integration. This is the first time a senior government official has entered into these towns (the ECOWAS Estate in Sinje was interesting) to engage with our brothers and sisters I was told. I met Sierra Leoneans from Kabala, Kailahun and Pujehun. We are truly one people even if two countries- Sierra Leone and Liberia.
On the SLPP Party front, I can assure you that the SLPP is well grounded in Liberia. There’s a chapter in each County! The communities are well-organized and structured. As Chairman Songa said, there’s a need for an SLPP Mano River Region! Between Guinea, Liberia and Ivory Coast, we must pay closer attention to our people.
On behalf of the Leader, President Julius Maada Bio, and the Chairman, Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, I pledge resources for bikes for the youth and business money for the women. Together #WeWillDeliver.
I return back to Freetown feeling energized to continue working for the people! In Bo Waterside, I confirmed that I am indeed naive to politics as it exists today- the politics of abuse, misuse, corruption, elitism, and blatant nepotism with no regard for competence. I am shaping a ‘new man’ politics (that’s my name anyway- Moinina). That’s the politics of accessibility and accountability, politics of inclusion, politics of grassroots engagement, politics of competence and politics of delivery. This is the politics of the SLPP- our social democratic party which was built in human capital and radical inclusion.
Come join us!
